You are having assault and robbery charges pressed against you. I suggest you prepare yourself for company.

[WARDED: MILLICENT BAGNOLD, BARTEMIUS CROUCH, GAWAIN ROBARDS, RUFUS SCRIMGEOUR]
Sirs and Madam, Head Auror Robards and I believe we have identified our Death Eater mole. Aston Mulciber of the hitwizard office has a prior record of violent behaviour and use of Dark Magic, which was made note of in files that we have retrieved from Hogwarts, but is conspicuously absent from his DMLE admissions evaluations. I can only assume that would have something to do with his (notably purist) family's connections within the Ministry.
Unfortunately, well-founded as our suspicions might be, they remain only conjecture. We have no evidence to prove either that Mulciber has been leaking information out of this department, or that he had a hand in last month's poisoning incident.
As neither Head Auror Robards nor I have direct authority over the suspect, we turn to you in order to proceed. [/WARD]

I need a location for a James Nathaniel Potter, ASAP. His listed address has been vacated and his own bloody mother doesn't know where to find him. Do we have anything on him, anywhere? [/WARD]
[WARDED: ROBARDS]
I've got Mulciber's file, but it's going to have to wait. I'll send it over to you if I ever get back into the office. [/WARD]

Please, please nobody talk to him. Just nobody ask questions, nobody get him talking and everything will be all right.
[added later] Of course. Of course. Because nobody could keep their mouths shut if their lives depended on it around here. Which they usually do.
Damn it straight to hell. Will somebody just kill that fucking wolf already?
If you want something done right [/WARD]

Issues:
1. DMLE mole assignment. Solutions: • Continue to narrow down list - approach could be all wrong but have to have something for Crouch by weekend. • Ask Liam/Al for input - get sent to Azkaban when Crouch finds out. • Quit, move to South Pacific, get a tan, enter arithmancy field by correspondence - would have to also bring far too many people to be able to fit in small straw hut. Also have never been able to sleep in hammocks. 2. Press leak. Solutions: • Simply go through with press gag - difficulty high. Also unethical. • Teach Crouch to stop doing things that the media/public will crucify him for - probability of success low. • Hell if I know - could be anyone, for any reason. 3. Michael's impending birthday. Solutions: • Find someone who knows how to shop for baby clothes. Learn to shop for baby clothes - time permitting. • Withdraw gold to give to aforementioned person and buy card - do not tell E&L, or mum.
4. Werewolves and the people who will not stop talking to them. Solutions: • Kill wolves - dangerous, work-in-progress. • Arrest everyone who cannot keep their mouths/quills to themselves - lots of paperwork. • Kill everyone who cannot keep their mouths/quills to themselves - messy.
5. Loose railing on balcony. Solutions: • Destroy balcony - nowhere to keep plants, loss of security deposit. • Learn to fix railings - time permitting. • Make someone else do it. • Leave it and do not lean on balcony railing anymore.
6. Wizengamot unlikely to convict Bellatrix Lestrange anyone. Solutions: • Fill remaining seats with reliable, non-purist voters - will probably end up dead within the week. • Adopt religion, learn to pray - inefficient.
7. Vigilantes
7. Out of cigarettes. Solutions: • Quit smoking - no. • Go to corner shop, buy more - it is raining. • Steal Al's - go to corner shop, buy him more when rain stops.
Slightly better. Who needs mind healers? [/WARD]

[WARDED: GAWAIN ROBARDS]
Good morning, sir. I promised you a list.
For clarification: if we have a Death Eater mole in our midst - placing the possibilities of blackmail, bribery, and magical forms of coercion aside, for the moment - it would be someone with security access to Level 2 and a conceivable "in" to the purist circles. That is to say, someone who is pureblood or close enough to it. For now, the list of people who fall into both categories is comprehensive to the best of my knowledge.
- Bones - (H)
Crouch
- Harper - (H)
- Longbottom - (A)
- Longbottom (Blishwick) - (A)
- MacDougal - (A)
- Macmillan - (H)
- Mulciber - (H)
- Prewett - (S)
- Weasley - (MMA)
- Bletchley - (H)
- Runcorn - (H)
- Thicknesse - (H)
- Urquhart - (H)
- Vance - (H)
Obviously, there are those I think it is reasonable to strike off immediately. I'm willing to personally vouch for Macmillan, MacDougal, and the Longbottoms - to say nothing of character, they are highly reluctant participants in society, if they continue to do so at all - and Weasleys on the whole haven't been considered reputable company in generations. As for myself, you may perform a full background check if you'd like; I promise not to be offended. Or you may simply take my word that I was thoroughly evaluated upon admission into the training programme and continue to have a spotless record, and we can move right along.
That said, I want Aston Mulciber's disciplinary records pulled from Hogwarts, if possible. I have reason to believe there have been deliberate omissions made to our files on him - not good reason, mind, but considering we have to start somewhere, it might as well be there.
Minister Crouch seems to believe that a mole is the case, but of course, the Death Eaters aren't without their methods of influence. It wouldn't do to completely discount the possibility of an unwilling puppet, but I think it best to start with the list and work our way out to the other employees/people with maintenance access if nothing turns up. Besides, I think he may be right for once, considering this seems to have been going on for quite awhile.
On the matter of the press leak: I'm not entirely certain we're dealing with the same culprit. After all, there are a multitude of reasons one could rationalise sending out that memo (gold comes to mind); we can't exactly narrow it down similarly. Well, we could, I suppose, but it certainly wouldn't be as simple as sorting out blood ties. Any leads might begin with the reporter girl there, but considering we were all just poisoned, perhaps it would be best to set aside as a secondary mission for now. The Minister will simply have to learn to exercise tact in the meantime.
Comments thus far? [/WARD]

Dear Family,
I sincerely hope this is the last time I have to say this.
Do not talk to the bloody werewolves. I don't care whose names they toss out, or what they're running their mouths off about. Their response to reasoning, bargaining, pleading, and threatening is to eat the people you love.
This is not a difficult concept to grasp, nor is it open for discussion. I am not going to argue with you over it; I am very tired and I have had it up to here. Just don't do it. [/WARD]

Career counselling, fifth year. I told Professor Flitwick in no uncertain terms that I was going to be a hitwitch. He asked if I was sure, and pushed me to think up some backup plan that didn't involve law enforcement. I said that if for some reason I didn't make it, or had to leave the DMLE one day, I wanted to be an arithmancer.
I swear I forgot about that whole conversation for years, but it's been coming to mind pretty often lately.
You would tell me if I had somehow missed a whole week, wouldn't you? Because it's a bit too early to be playing at April's Fool. [/WARD]

Do you know I can't think of one thing to do? I mean, of course there are things to do. I just don't want to. Not right now. But lying here writing to myself and staring at the fire all night is completely pathetic. And who is going to toss out my cigarettes this time?
So. You have turned me into a procrastinator and a liar. I lied for you today. And I hope to Godric it's worth it. I really do. [/WARD]

I'm sure you've heard by now about Edgar. I've called Oscar home. Merlin knows when he'll actually turn up, but I want to know the second he sets foot on English soil, so if you catch him dallying about, give him a smack for me and send him my way. [/WARD]

I still have my training notes on Surveillance and Tracking in Magical Law Enforcement: Third Edition, if whichever of you has found need for it would rather save yourself some time. As I recall, it was dense subject matter and not terribly well-presented.
Anyway, when you eventually return it and the rest of the books, please put them back in their proper place. It's alphabetical by subject and title. I don't mind you borrowing them, and I love you all, but if whichever of you has been rifling through my library makes such a wretched mess of it again, I will hex you quite cheerfully. Freya. [/WARD]
[WARDED: EDDIE & FREYA]
I think that you two should give notice before letting yourselves in from now on, and remind me to tell Oscar when he's back home
Oh, who am I kidding?
You know I don't care if you're coming by nicking my things, but just remember I'm not the only one living here now.

For making a mockery of the judicial system. I'll bet none of them have done an honest day's work in their lives. When did sipping cognac and ranting about muggle-lovers over the Prophet become qualification to run the government?
Also, I'd eat my hat if Yaxley turned out not to be a Death Eater. What are you playing at, Crouch? You want to authorize Unforgivables and then punish those who use them in the precise situations for which they were intended? You're turning on your own department. Whose side are you on? [/WARD]

Freya McKinnon is safe in her home, complaining of no bodily injury but just about everything else, but with no memory of the past three and a half days.
Has anyone retrieved the Prewett girl? Judging by what Freya's said, the two of them seem to have found themselves in the same general area around Diagon Alley, so if no-one's heard from Marlene, I'd suggest giving the vicinity a sweep for a lost and filthy-looking teenager. [/WARD]
[WARDED: EDGAR]
Freya's back, but whatever happened to her in the past four days, she has no memory of it. Could you pop over and give her a look when you've got a moment? It's not urgent, although I'm fairly sure she had the same or similar illness to the one that's been mentioned around; probably linked to the bakery she and Marlene were last seen at. There's vomit on her clothes, but it's old, and she swears she's fine. I doubt there are any immediate health concerns - or physical ones, anyway. She's sleeping now.
I'm sorry; I know you're busy, but she won't go anywhere but Gringotts of her own free will, and I don't have the time nor the energy to drag her to hospital by the hair, and Godric only knows what she's not remembering. [/WARD]

I'm assuming that since you are not here, you either had so much fun with Marlene today that you forgot all about begging for some of my time to get away from her a couple days ago, or you have finally managed to kill each other.
I'll probably fall asleep on my sofa if you don't turn up soon. If Callum came home early to distract you, I'll tell you right now that I don't want details, but do tell me if you're ill like everyone else seems to be, so I can make plans to avoid you.
